Turkey Taco Chili
Directions for crock pot
- 1 cup dried light red kidney beans
- 1⁄2 cup dried pinto beans
- 1 (1-1⁄4 ounce) package taco seasoning mix
- 1 (1 ounce) package buttermilk salad dressing mi
- 3 tablespoons dried minced or chopped onion
- 1 teaspoon chili powder
- 1⁄4 teaspoon ground cumin
- 5 cups chicken broth
- 1 (11-3⁄4 ounce) can diced tomatoes and green chiles
- 1 (16 ounce) can tomato sauce
- 1 pound ground turkey
- 1 can of corn (optional)
Procedure:
- Place beans in a large bowl, cover with water and soak 6 to 8 hours, or overnight. Drain and add to a crock pot. Add taco seasoning, buttermilk salad dressing mix, onion, chili powder, cumin, chicken broth, diced tomatoes and green chiles, tomato sauce, and ground turkey (make sure and break the turkey up).
- Cook on low for 6 to 8 hours.
Serve with rice, tortilla chips, sour cream, cheese, green onions or whatever your family likes.
I am sure you could use ground beef, sausage, chorizo or shredded chicken if you do not like turkey.
