EVALUATING YOUR LIFE INSURANCE NEEDS AS YOU PLAN TO MARRY

You’ve been planning for that special day for weeks or even months now. You’ve made sure that every last detail is the way you want it. You’ve put all your hopes and dreams into planning this wedding and you want your wedding to be perfect. As you plan for your life together you both have been evaluating where you will be living, who’s furniture stays and who’s goes, and what other household items you will both need to purchase after the wedding. You’ve both made changes at your financial institutions and evaluated your health insurance needs, but have you even thought about your life insurance needs? Whether or not you are both working and your employer provides a life insurance death benefit, you may want to consider additional life insurance. In your lifetime, you may change jobs anywhere from 3-6 times and not every employer provides a life insurance death benefit. So, you may want to consider purchasing a term or whole life policy as you plan your future together. It’s important that you consider life insurance in case something was to happen. Wouldn’t you want your spouse and/or family to be able to continue planning their future? By purchasing a term or whole life policy the additional money can help pay off the mortgage on your home, help the kids with college or prepare for retirement. PRE-STORM INSURANCE TIPS

One of the most important things a newly married couple can do is prepare for any unexpected storm. It’s best to take the extra time to prepare so that when a severe storm hits you have all the necessary materials and information readily available. Here is a pre-storm insurance tip list that can help you plan ahead:

  • Take an inventory of the possessions in your home. Photos or videotape recordings of these items are helpful to Claim Adjusters if damage occurs.
  • Carefully review your insurance policy to be certain adequate coverage is provided.
  • Place handwritten or video tape inventories, as well as insurance policies in a safe place (such as a safety deposit box or safe) away from the path of the storm.
  • Flooding is not covered by the standard Texas home insurance policy. Insurance agents can help you find flood insurance through the National Flood Insurance Program.
  • An estimated 50 percent of those living in apartments do not have insurance on their household belongings. Talk to an insurance agent about renters insurance.
  • Business owners should consider storing company files offline and digital photos should be taken of all equipment such as computers and office furniture. Important documents should be scanned and stored in a safe location. Source: Southwest Insurance Information Services
