Germania Companies Names New Vice PresidentThe Board of Directors of Germania Farm Mutual Insurance Association has selected Gary Weiss to fill the vacancy created by the retirement of Ron Rhodes, effective February 1, 2010. Weiss came to Germania in 1982 following a professional career with the Los Angeles Dodgers from 1978 through 1981. His skills and knowledge encompass a wide array of positions held throughout his first 18 years at Germania which include: property claims adjuster, senior underwriter, regional director in Underwriting and director of Pricing and Business Analysis. He has served as assistant vice president of Pricing and Business Analysis for the past nine years. "I am very pleased to have Gary join Germania's executive team," said David Sommer, president of Germania Insurance. "He has proven abilities to manage and communicate effectively and we look forward to working with him. His results-oriented management style and 27 years working in the insurance industry will be invaluable to the Germania Companies." Sommer continues, "Developing a strong management team is critical to the success of any company and our directors, agents, employees and policyholders can trust that Gary has the necessary knowledge and expertise to act in the best interest of Germania." Weiss graduated from the University of Houston with a Bachelor of Business Administration degree and holds a Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter designation. His new duties include overseeing both the Underwriting and Marketing departments, respectively. Gary and his wife, Phyllis, have been married for 24 years. He has a daughter, Lauren, who is a senior at the University of Texas majoring in public relations. Gary's son, Erich, is currently a senior at Brenham High School and will attend The University of Texas on a baseball scholarship.
